Urethritis caused by group B streptococci: a case report.
We describe a case of urethritis caused by group B streptococci. The diagnosis was confirmed by examination of a Gram stained smear, isolation of the organism from the urethral discharge, and also by the clinical response to treatment with phenoxymethyl penicillin.

A retrospective observational study in Taiwan, 1998-2004, identified 92 patients with group G streptococcal bacteremia; 86 had Streptococcus dysgalactiae subspecies equisimilis. The most common diagnosis was cellulitis (48 cases), followed by primary bacteremia (34 cases). Infection recurred in 9 patients. Mortality rate was low (3.3%); resistance to quinupristin-dalfopristin was high.

Group C streptococci commonly cause infection in animals but only occasionally give rise to severe infection in man. We report here three cases of serious human infection due to this organism and discuss its pathogenicity in relation to the clinical manifestations of the disease.
